This is the best coffee maker of the many I've had over the years. It makes a consistantly great brew each time, something I couldn't always count on, even with other Cuisinart models. The burr grinder and funky automatic drip basket assembly, along with the strength selector give you an easier path to a good cup. Also, its easier to clean than the less expensive Cuisinart models with the blade based grinders.Don't overlook the carafe. This one is the thermal model, NOT THE GLASS one. The thermal carafe model doesn't burn the coffee in the pot by heating it. It just insulates it really well so it stays warm for hours. After years of other coffee makers, this feature alone makes it worth it -- the later cups don't taste burnt! One caution, this carafe has a top that seals in the heat, and when you get near empty is a pain to get out the last drops. When you get to your last pour, just take off the top of the carafe and pour the last half cup or so. Not a bad sacrifice for a great pot of coffee!

I purchased this coffee maker to replace a grind & brew Cuisinart that I had enjoyed for years, until I accidently broke the glass carafe. After breaking the glass carafe, the metal carafe was appealing. I should have read some of the other review before purchase. The grind & brew with the glass carafe has a warmer built in versus using the metal to maintain the temperature of the coffee. The warmer with the glass carafe keeps the coffee warmer. The metal carafe has a VERY BAD design. Pouring the last of the coffee creates a mess consistently. If you're content to leave the last few mouthfulls of coffee to go to waste, then this wouldn't be a problem for you. But for me, I'm usually trying to get that last little bit.I've seen other reviews complain about the grinder and having to clean it frequently. This doesn't bother me as much. My previously grind & brew required daily cleaning. This one can go for several days. Not a big deal. The big negative here is the metal carafe doesn't maintain the temperature and doesn't pour to my satisfaction. Go with the glass carafe!

The coffee maker is just great, but the vac coffee canister, not so much!It doesn't completely vacuum the air, and it's too small also.
